How to Live Forever

When we are one with every atom of our being, one with our surroundings, and one with the entire universe, we become immortal because the concept of time no longer applies.

I don’t believe in aging and death.

Now, I may grow old and die anyway. I’d say that’s a very strong possibility as no one in the history of mankind has been able to escape death. My graying hair is a daily reminder that I am not getting any younger.

That said, I strongly believe that dwelling on one’s mortality also can accelerate his or her physical death. I mean, if we are constantly preoccupied  with the inevitability of death, how much does this mindset influence our personal habits and life choices, and eventually become a self-fulfilling prophecy?

If, on the hand, we believe that we are going live forever, wouldn’t we do the things that prolong life, like watching what we eat, taking care of our bodies, and maintaining a positive outlook on life?

I draw a lot of inspiration by watching babies because unlike grown adults, who are constantly working their way toward their graves, babies don’t calculate, analyze, or crave things that really don’t matter to their physical survival. They have no concept of death whatsoever.

Love, innocence, flexibility, receptiveness, adaptability, balance and equilibrium are the tenets of life. This is true of life at any level, from the ecology of an entire forest to the biochemistry of a single-celled organism.

Babies embody the tenets of life. They learn quickly because they are receptive to their surroundings. They are full of awareness, fully present, eager to experience and learn from life as it unfolds.

Rigidity and inflexibility, on the other hand, are the tenets of death. When things are about to die, they become stiff and brittle and eventually fall apart.

This is why many older people, despite their vast knowledge and life experiences, have a tendency to look at things with a tunnel vision. Unlike children, they do not want to learn anything new or see things in a different way than what they’ve been conditioned to see.

We as adults are creatures of habit that live primarily on autopilot, on our memories, conceptualizations, expectations, and calculations. That’s why we need to observe babies and young children to reclaim our inner child, to reconnect with our true essence, and to re-awaken to the divine gift which has always been a part of us.

We can live forever by embracing the tenets of life, by letting go and allowing our selves to be consumed by pure awareness. When we are one with every atom of our being, one with our surroundings, and one with the entire universe, we become immortal because the concept of time no longer applies.

It is a wonderful experience to be alive.
